Requirements And Benefits: First Point of Contact volunteer - based in Halifax

This is a busy and varied role that acts as a welcoming first point of contact for all women arriving at the WomenCentre Halifax. Volunteers work closely with the centre’s reception staff.

You will need to be a supportive listener with excellent communication skills as the role involves listening to women and understanding their needs.

You may then either signpost or refer them to groups, activities, or services within the WomenCentre or to other organisations; alternatively, you will offer listening support to a woman.

WomenCentre is open for women to drop-in between 9.30-3pm throughout the week.

You may also be asked, on occasion to support women to attend appointments out in the community.
Outline of the role

· To listen supportively to women who come to the centre.

· To refer or signpost to appropriate groups, activities, or services.

· To take direction from the Volunteer Co-ordinator, Reception Staff and Senior Managers.

· To support women to make phone calls to relevant organisations e.g. utility companies

· To complete an appropriate record for each woman

· To answer the front door, make sure women sign in and out of the building
