More Details About This Role

Would you like to volunteer for an organisation that makes a difference every week through the simple kindness of listening, patience and a good cup of tea (with a biscuit or two)?

Our cafes take place in St Paul's Church, Sowerby Bridge every 2nd and 4th Saturday in the month, and Maurice Jagger Centre, Halifax every 1st and 3rd Monday in the month.

Volunteers support the café by:
... Planning events and activities
... Setting up the room before people arrive
... Welcome visitors to the cafe
... Make and serve drinks
... Engage in conversation and socialising
... Help members with a variety of activities
... Help clear up after activities

We need volunteers who:
· Are enthusiast and positive
· Are reliable in meeting commitments
· Can work as a team
· Are prepared to be involved with all aspects of the cafe
· Will treat everybody with courtesy and respect
· Can communicate with everyday people
· Can be discrete and respect confidentiality
· Can listen and show empathy
· Will engage in training
· Will respect our values and policies

Could this be you? Please do feel free to get in touch if you'd like more information or just for an informal chat.

What Could Someone Gain From This Role?

This volunteer role will give you the opportunity to be part of a really fun and lovely team of fellow volunteers.

It will give you a wonderful sense of satisfaction and grounding understanding of the challenges of carers... And how you can make a real difference by offering conversation and a cuppa to both carers and those struggling with dementia.

You will be well looked after as a volunteer, both at the cafes but also at our supportive social events in the year specifically for volunteers, to say thank you for your time, energy, effort and kindness.

Requirements and Benefits

All our volunteers are offered full support and training for the roles they undertake and we reimburse travel expenses to all. You will be covered under our full insurance and have an opportunity to be direct involved with the development of the cafes.

Because of the nature of our work, all volunteers are required to complete a DBS check but this will be free to you.

We ask that volunteers commit to at least one cafe a month.
