Requirements And Benefits: Referral Order Panels are led by volunteer community panel members. It is a meeting where young people that have offended and received a Referral Order, their parents/carers, victims of crime and members of the community have the opportunity to come together:

... to discuss the offence that took place,
... support young people to take responsibility for their own actions
... devise individual and imaginative programmes of work to address young people’s offending behaviour
... create a tailor made individual contract to support the young people to repair some of the harm caused through the offence
... reduce their likelihood of offending in the future

Would you be able to volunteer for Calderdale Council’s Youth Offending Team?
We are looking for adult volunteers who can offer a regular commitment of 2-3hours per week for 12 months, or longer, to be a Referral Order Panel Member.

These meetings are usually held early evening during the week, Monday to Friday.
• Do you have effective listening and communication skills?
• Can you engage well with children and young people?
• Are you patient and able to listen to advice and views of others?

Are you:
• Motivated to work with young people to prevent further offending?
• Motivated to support victims to deal with the consequences of crime?
• Willing to undergo a rigorous recruitment and training programme?
• Able to commit to the initial and on-going training required to fulfill this role?

You also need to be:
... over 18 years of age;
... reliable and able to commit to 2 - 3 hours per week;
... free from criminal convictions, which precludes contact with young people. (Not all convictions preclude, offences will be
assessed in accordance with the role.)
