Who we are and what we do
HBCA is the membership charity that owns and manages The Town Hall, Hebden Bridge, one of the first community-owned town halls in the country. Community is right at the heart of who we are and what we do.

The HBCA Board currently has eight voluntary trustees and we employ an Executive Director who leads the organisation and runs The Town Hall with support from a small staff team and local community volunteers.

The Town Hall hosts and supports a diverse range of community activity with over 100 groups using the building. We are also home to over 30 small business tenants and we run a thriving community cafe. More than just a building, we act as a creative connector - making links, creating new partnerships and opening up exciting possibilities. We have demonstrated this as a lead partner in the Staying Well project to reduce social isolation, as well as in our role as a community hub in the recent devastating floods. In the next year our priorities are to:

• develop a strategy to secure investment for the restoration of the Victorian part of our building
• continue to seek out new collaborations, building on the success of the Staying Well project
• secure grants to enhance our role as a community hub with a first-class community offer
• continue to keep The Town Hall operating successfully with a focus on our long-term viability

What Could Someone Gain From This Role?: Who we are looking for

We are looking for a Treasurer with a background that includes some finance/accountancy work, preferably with knowledge of the voluntary sector and who could bring those skills to the board to help us with financial decision-making.

It’s important to be aware that HBCA employs a book-keeper and accountant who prepare the financial records and ensure that our financial control systems are maintained and that they are responsible for end of year accounts.
The Treasurer will work closely with one of our two co-Chairs and the Executive Director to prepare items for board consideration and to deal with matters that arise between meetings. Your focus will be:
 to provide strategic guidance in financial matters in order to meet our aims and priorities
 to ensure that the board has commentary and explanation on the financial reporting at our board meetings so that we can take informed financial decisions and move the charity forward
 to support the Exec Director to prepare and present annual budgets and forward projections
 to support the checking and review of the annual report and accounts and the annual audit
